Everyday is a gift from God

Hug your family extra tight when you get home tonight...

Today another tragedy has occurred in a school...this time in my hometown! A student at John Tyler High School stabbed a teacher. The teacher unfornatunately didn't make it. Here's a link to the news story  http://www.tylerpaper.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090923/NEWS08/909239995

This just makes me so sad. Sad for this poor man and his family that will forever question why, sad for the citizens of Tyler, and sad that this is a reality for kids today. Sad sad sad.... I will never understand how anyone can take another human beings life, especially so callously.

SO please say your prayers for this teacher's family as they grieve. Pray that God shows them the light they need to get through this dark time. Pray that our childern can go to school and not fear for their lives. Pray that we as a nation come to the realization that something  is desperately wrong. Pray that His word will prevail.

I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down

This morning around 5:00ish, I was awoken by a screaming 3 year old. We're talking full on bloody murder screaming! He was extremely upset, so I brought him downstairs to lay in our bed. I really try to keep time in mommy & daddy's bed to a minimum, but I was getting up in 30 minutes anyway and I thought he might fall back asleep.

I got him settled in between us, and he whispers, "I don't want tha wolf to blow my house down". It took me a minute to comprehend what he just said ...partly b/c it came out of nowhere and partly b/c it was 5:00 in the morning. I asked him to repeat what he just said and then it clicked that he was referring to the story of the 3 Little Pigs. I reassured him that Daddy built our house super strong and that there was no way the wolf could blow our house down. His response...."cause our house is made of bricks?"

I mean seriously, how cute is that??? He KILLS me!!!

Weekend of rain and $600 septic system mess

Where do I start?!?!?! Friday night, Tim was out of commission...sore throat, headache, etc. So I spent the evening playing nurse to him & John. See...John saw that Daddy was getting more attention than he was...therefore he had a headache too!

Saturday it rained pretty much all day, so John had a major case of cabin fever! At one point, I considered making him run laps around the house. We watched cartoons, played with playdough, colored, painted, took 3 baths(2 were recreational and 1 was to wash the ink off his ENTIRE body) and he even helped me clean house a little.

Speaking of the house....Friday night I noticed a gurgling sound coming out of all the toilets, sinks and bathtubs...a little odd but I didn't think much of it. Well Saturday morning, Tim heard it and got very concerned. Apparently, when you have a septic system, gurgling is never a good sign! He went outside and checked the system and the breaker was flipped. So he flipped the breaker back on and it immediately flipped back off...uh oh!

Long story short, the motor was going out on the pump.... which means it was pumping incorrectly....which means the tank was full & was backing up into the pipes of the house...AND that my friend means it was very close to coming up through the lavatories! Oy vey!!! $600 and all day later, it's fixed!

I'm SOOO grateful Tim knows his stuff and SOOOO grateful he caught it before it got really bad!!

Fun at Kindermusik

John had his first kindermusik class on Friday and LOVED it! I've always wanted for him to be able to participate in some type of class like this but since I work full-time and usually theses classes are during the week, it's nearly impossible. Talk about working mom guilt...but that's another post!

Well this summer, John went to class with his cousins Isabella & Alexandra and had a blast. So Grandma (Tim's mom) volunteered to sign him up and take him...the class is every Friday, for a semester...so that's a lot of her time...THANK YOU Grandma!!

Anyway, he had a blast! Grandma said that the teacher was really impressed with his natural rhythm...must have gotten that from me...heehee!! She said he smiled the whole class!!

As envious as I am that I don't get to be there with him...I'm grateful that he gets to spend quality time with his Grandma and cousins, all while learning something new!

I love the Rancho Grande

There is a great little mexican restaurant in Conroe that we frequent at least once every 2 weeks...used to be once a week but in case you haven't heard we're in a recession. Anyway, it's called Rancho Grande. The food is good, the margaritas are great and most importantly the atmosphere is kid friendly!!!!

On the weekends, there is the sweetest "older" man who plays music...just him and his guitar. John adores him!!! I always call him over and he always plays the same song for John. He, of course, sings in spanish so the only thing I understand is that it's about a donkey. So we call it the donkey song! It's very cute and I love watching John stare at the guitar...you can see his brain working overtime trying to figure out how the guitar works. I'm hoping one day he'll want to take lessons...

It's the little things...

A good day = no accidents and a 3 hour nap!

John had a great day at Pre-K yesterday. Transitioning to this new class has been rough on him. I think it's the no nap thing, more than anything. But he's been having accidents everyday and extremely cranky by the time he gets home. So I decided to bring his napmat back to school and told Mrs. Patsy( his teacher) that I'd like him to take a nap that day. SOOOO glad I did! He slept 3 hours! She said he was asleep as soon as his head hit the mat.

I rewarded him with a M&M Blizzard from DQ. Here's how our conversation went on the ride home:

me:  I'm so proud of you for not having an accident!!
John:  giggle
me:  You're such a big boy!
John:  I got ice keam for being a big boy!
me:  yes, you did...
John:  and now mommy can love on me when I get home

Ahhh, my heart melts!
